Director Prashanth Neel addressed the box office performance of Prabhas-Prithviraj starrer Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire in a recent interview.

Prashanth Neel made an impressive debut as a director with Sriimurli-Haripriya’s Kannada film Ugramm (2014). But it was the Yash starrer KGF franchise which made him a household name. Last year, the filmmaker made his directorial debut in Telugu cinema with Prabhas’ Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire. The action thriller was inspired by Neel’s own film Ugramm.

Before the release of Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, when Prashanth was asked why he decided to make this film after the humongous success of his two KGF films, the director had said that he wanted to fill the theatres and make more people see that story.

Recently on the first anniversary of Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire, when Prashanth was asked in an interview if that wish of his was fulfilled, the filmmaker candidly admitted that he was not completely happy with the Prabhas starrer. He also promised that he would make up for it in Salaar: Part 2- Shouryanga Parvam.

Explaining the reason behind his disappointment over the first film, the director shared, “I am not completely happy…I am a little disappointed with how much effort I put into the first part. Maybe I was subconsciously complacent from KGF 2. Since that happened, I decided to make Salaar my best film. The writing I’ve put in for Salaar 2 makes it one of my best works. I am going to make up for it, I am confident of it. It’ll unquestionably be one of my best works.”

Further, Prashanth also emphasized on no matter how Salaar is packaged, the film’s story lies in the emotional core – the story of two childhood friend-turned-foes, and not in the action scenes.

Salaar is not about the sword and guns; it’s about the moment that drives best friends (Deva and Varadha) to become enemies. I am banking on the moment that drives them apart, the reason why that happens in part 2. The drama is not the same as what it was in Ugramm,” Neel said in his interview.

Besides Prabhas, Salaar: Part 1-Ceasefire also featured Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shruti Haasan.
