Mandira Bedi, in a new interview, spoke about how she was struggling with the choreographed dance in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s popular song ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’.

Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, is still remembered for its evergreen songs. One of them is the iconic ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’ song wherein the duo’s cute chemistry left everyone asking for more.

The song also featured Mandira Bedi who essayed the role of Preeti in the film. Previously in one of her interviews, the actress had talked about how filming this track wasn’t a fun.

Recently when Mandira made an appearance on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s chat show What Women Want, the actress was asked to explain her previous comment.

Mandira replied, “Because unlike you, how graceful and beautiful you are when it comes to songs… I started with a song ‘Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna’ and I’ll tell you that if I have nightmares, as a grown woman, it is about two things — choreographed dance and maths exams, that’s it. They both give me cold sweat.”

The Saaho actress explained that her fear of choreographed dance stemmed from her experience working with renowned choreographer Saroj Khan on the iconic song.

“So Saroj (Khan) ji was the choreographer and I remember her telling me, ‘you know something, you are like somebody I know, somebody I know very well. You are like Sunny Deol. He shakes his shoulders. You shake your shoulders really well but as a woman and as a female actress you need to learn how to shake your hips,’ which I could not do. It was actually quite terrifying and it still is. It is great to go to a party and then let off some steam and dance freestyle but when you are dancing to a beat, it is horrifying, at least for me,” Mandira recalled.

The actress further added that she stills feels so embarrassed at how bad she was at that time whenever she sees that sequence on social media.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge follows the story of Raj and Simran who meet on a Europe trip and fall in love, and how Raj follows Simran all the way to Punjab to win over her family.
