Kamal Haasan, in a new interview, broke his silence on not working with Rajinikanth in the last four decades.

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, the two superstars of the Tamil film industry have worked together in several films. The duo first shared screen space in K Balachander’s 1975 film, Apoorva Raagangal and went on to feature in films like Aval Appadithan, 16 Vayathinile, Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu, Thillu Mullu and Ninaithale Inikkum.

Their last outing together was Prayag Raj’s 1985 Hindi film, Geraftaar which also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Madhavi and Poonam Dhillon. Since then, the two acting stalwarts have never shared screen space in a film. Despite not working together, the former collaborators share a warm friendship and often attend events to support each other’s work.

In a recent interview with Indian Express, Kamal got candid about his equation with the ‘Thalaivaa’ and also opened up on whether there is a possibility of them working together again or making cameos in each other’s films in the future.

The ‘Chachi 420’ actor said, “It’s not a new combination. We have done many films together. Then we decided not to work together. We are not like two competitors. We had the same mentor (Tamil filmmaker K Balachander). Unlike any other place, the competition is there, openly. But there’s no envy and it’s two different paths.”

He added, “We also never make snide remarks about each other. We made this call when we were in our 20s; it’s not that we became older and wiser now.”

On the work front, Kamal was recently seen playing the role of the main antagonist in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. Rajinikanth’s last release was Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer in 2023.
