Kajal Aggarwal opened up on why she believes Ajay Devgan’s Singham turned out to be a ‘defining’ film for her.

Ajay Devgn drew whistles and claps from the audience when he first played the no-nonsense cop Bajirao Singham in Rohit Shetty’s Singham (2011). Over the years, the action franchise and Ajay’s character became extremely popular with the masses. Who can forget Ajay’s iconic ‘Aata majhi satakli’ dialogue that’s become synonymous with his cop role!

Talking about Singham, Kajal Aggarwal essayed the role of Ajay’s heroine in this mass entertainer. The film marked her entry in Hindi cinema. Recently, the makers re-released this film in cinema halls where it received a lot of love from the audience.

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Kajal Aggarwal said that she is really happy about the audience getting to revisit her Bollywood debut film in theatres.

The actress said, “Singham is definitely special. It’s one of the films that set a trend. It enjoys a very loyal fan base. Rohit went on to make so many other sequels to the film and it became a franchise. I’m very happy it became such a big deal and that its loyal fan base is excited and looking forward to watching it.”

She continued. “People still want to watch it, over and over again. In fact, there are so many of them who come up to me and tell me that every time it’s on TV, they view and enjoy it. They, particularly, enjoy the action and the humour, which is something that Rohit is known for.”

Prior to Singham, Kajal featured in many popular Tamil and Telugu films. But it was this Ajay Devgn starrer which made her a popular name pan-India.

Speaking about it, the ‘Hey Sinamika’ actress said, “I started my career with regional cinema. I’ve been lucky that I got to do some fabulous films and work with the best of people. It was amazing and I did get a lot of global recognition through my regional films. But doing Singham truly brought upon me the spotlight and made me a national name.”

She expressed her gratitude for being a part of a film like Singham and added, “I’m grateful to have been a part of a film like this. Doors automatically open when you do a multi-crore, big-ticket film. That’s a natural phenomenon. So, yes, I did get quite a few offers post-Singham. It was a defining film for me in terms of my career and brand. I do feel that it was a milestone film.”

The ‘Satyabhama’ actress also talked about how Singham didn’t resort to crudity despite being a massy entertainer.

“It’s truly entertaining without having any derogatory remarks or unnecessary humour. It was a genuinely funny film. It’s a cop story about how he fights for justice and these are stories we all enjoy watching very much. I definitely knew that I was a part of something special but I didn’t expect it to become so big,” Kajal candidly admitted.

On the work front, Kajal is currently filming for Salman Khan’s Sikandar. The film is helmed by AR Murugadoss.
