Vasan Bala, in a new interview, shared about his reaction when producer Karan Johar sent the script of Jigra to Alia Bhatt.

Vasan Bala of ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota Hai’ fame is teaming up with Alia Bhatt for the first time for his upcoming emotional thriller, Jigra. The film marks the second feature of Vedang Raina  who made his acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix film, The Archies.

In a recent interview with Tried & Tested Productions, Vasan revealed that he never planned for Alia Bhatt to be his leading lady when he discussed the film with producer Karan Johar. He went on to say how he wasn’t pleased when Johar sent the rough draft of Jigra to Alia, as he wasn’t prepared for it.

The filmmaker said, “I had written a very kachha pakka email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying that I have already sent it to Alia and I was really not happy with it.”

Further, while explained the reason behind his displeasure over Karan’s gesture, Vasan revealed that he wanted to check the script and correct the errors in the script before sending it to Alia.

“I was like I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene, written some very nice hero entry… That email was sent and I asked Karan ‘why did you do this?’ He said ‘no, no this is how it works. Then he said we’ll meet in a couple of days,” the ‘Monica O My Darling’ director said in the interview.

Alia, who was also a part of the same conversation, revealed that she was very keen to know what happens next after reading the first half, and chased Vasan for the rest of the script for one month.

In Jigra, Alia essays the role of Satya who plays a saviour to her younger brother, Ankur (Vedang Raina). The film is slated to hit the theatrical screens on October 11.
