Jeethu Joseph revealed that Drishyam 3 went through five drafts before being finalized, after his daughter gave a thumbs-down to the first version.
Ever since Mohanlal confirmed the third installment of Drishyam, fans across languages and regions are eagerly waiting to see on George Kutty’s story unfolds next on screen. Meanwhile, the film’s director Jeethu Joseph, in a recent chat with Bharadwaj Ranjan, revealed that the scripting for Drishyam 3 is ‘fully done’ after five drafts.
The filmmaker shared that during his Europe trip in April, he used the travel time to work on the screenplay for Drishyam 3. He mentioned that he finalized the scene order while flying from Amsterdam to Dubai.
He said that upon returning, he was occupied with the shoot of Valadvista Kalan, yet managed to wake up every morning at 3:30 to write two or three scenes. Describing the process as quite hectic, he said that it ultimately turned out to be productive.
Jeethu called his daughters his ‘toughest critics’ and shared, “After the first half, I met them, I discussed, and then they read the second half. So once that process was done, I asked my cameraman and editor that the four of us read the script, and they had some suggestions; there were some issues, so it’s always like that.”
The director revealed that the script of Drishyam 3 went through five drafts, after his daughter rejected the first version. Further, he also warned fans that this Mohanlal starrer won’t be a repeat of the second film’s complex ‘intelligence game’. He also assured them that he has treated Mohanlal’s character George Kutty organically, and that it will be a good movie.
“If the audiences are expecting a heavy intelligence game like Drishyam 2, then they will be disappointed. I am happy with Drishyam 1 and 2, and Drishyam 3 is going to be a good film. I don’t know about the box office thing, but I approached the character growth organically, not considering Mohanlal as an actor, but I considered him as George Kutty, and whatever changes can happen after four years, that’s where I am working on,” Joseph told Ranjan.
The filmmaker further added that Drishyam 3 is expected to go on floors by mid-next year, citing the film’s extensive pre-production requirements. In an interview earlier this year, Mohanlal had stated that it’s a big challenge to bring out a good sequel.
