Rajpal Yadav recalled a hilarious anecdote from the sets of Ram Gopal Verma’s 2002 film Company.
After playing minuscular roles in films, Rajpal Yadav received his major breakthrough with a negative role in Ram Gopal Varma’s survival thriller Jungle (2000). Two years later, the filmmaker casted him again in his acclaimed crime thriller Company. The actor essayed the role of Joseph in this crime thriller which was headlined by Ajay Devgn, Manisha Koirala, Antara Mali, Mohanlal, and marked the Bollywood debut of Vivek Oberoi.
In a recent interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Rajpal Yadav walked down the memory lane, and recounted a hilarious anecdote from the film’s set when he was filming with Ajay Devgn, Manisha Koirala, Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali in Hong Kong.
The ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ actor recalled an instance where Ram Gopal Varma pulled his leg and told him that he’d soon be a star and wouldn’t work with him anymore.
Rajpal responded by saying, “Sir, you were the one who gave me Jungle, you are the one who gave me Pyaar Tume Kya Kiya, and now you have also cast me in Company. And I am very sure that if ever you will come across a script that will fit me as its lead, you will definitely offer it to me.”
According to the actor, as soon as he said this, his co-stars Ajay, Manisha, Vivek, and Antara went quiet, and everyone went from jovial to serious. Manisha admitted that she ‘liked his confidence’. When everyone was called for the next shot, Rajpal Yadav was worried that he would be fired for saying that he wanted to be a main lead while he was a supporting actor.
To his surprise, the next day, Ram Gopal Varma called him and said, “Rajpal, I couldn’t sleep the whole night due to your confidence. Can you suggest some scripts to me?” The actor admitted that it was the ‘happiest moment of his life’ when he heard this from the filmmaker, and that his comment helped him in bagging Chandan Arora’s Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hu with Antara Mali.
On the work front, Rajpal Yadav recently reprised his role of Chota Pandit in Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
