Shahid Kapoor, in one of his recent interviews, shared that the makers of Jab We Met were against him wanting to wear glasses in the rom-com.

Shahid Kapoor’s intense Aditya Kashyap was a perfect foil to the exuberant Geet (played by Kareena Kapoor Khan) in Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 romantic comedy Jab We Met. Even after so many years, the film continues to receive love and appreciation from fans.

Recently, in a chat with Film Companion, Shahid shared interesting backstory about his look in Jab We Met. The actor talked about how it was difficult for him to convince the makers to let him wear glasses for his character in the film.

Shahid told the entertainment portal, “I fought with everybody. I was like, ‘I want to wear glasses for this,’ and everybody’s like, ‘Are you mad?’ Hero glasses thodi pehenta hai? Tu gaana kaise gayega?” (Hero does not wear glasses, how will you sing?).

The Bollywood star revealed that he had to explain to the makers that Aditya’s character was suicidal at the beginning of the film and wanted to jump off a train. The actor also assured them that he would remove the glasses when he had to sing. However, they told him, “Are you mad? This is a love story.”

Speaking about why he stuck to his decision, Shahid explained, “I felt like that will at least help people see me in a different way. Otherwise, I was always looking the same in every film of mine. And then I started making much bigger physical changes because it kind of empowered me to make more decisions. Like Kaminey was my first complete transition from what people were used to seeing me – usually clean-shaven and very boyish.”

In the same interview, Shahid also shared how nobody was ready to cast him despite his debut film (Ishq Vishk) being a hit.

“They looked at me and they said, ‘We don’t write for guys who look like you. We write for guys who have, you know, like eight years older, who are men. We don’t write for boys,” the Bloody Daddy actor recalled.

On the work front, Shahid Kapoor will next be seen in Amit Joshi-Aradhna Sah’s yet-to-be-titled flick alongside Kriti Sanon.
