Nikita Dutta is no stranger to the hustle of the entertainment industry, having quietly and resiliently carved out her own space over the years. Before she became a familiar face on the silver screen, she spent significant time grinding in the television space, and even worked in films like Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (204) and Gold (2018). But it was was her breakthrough role in Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani’s blockbuster Kabir Singh that shattered the glass ceiling for her.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nikita opened up about how Kabir Singh changed her life. Calling the film her “brand-new life,” Nikita explained that while she had been working for years, it was Kabir Singh that truly felt like the start of her career. For her, the earlier years were more of a learning phase, but this film gave her the big-screen breakthrough she had always dreamed of.

“When I started acting, the sheer passion of acting was always to be on the big screen, and Kabir Singh gave me that. It was widely viewed and appreciated. It’s something that I look back at and think of as a starting point of my career. When I look back at the previous years, I take them as more like a learning phase, whereas I feel like I got employed with Kabir Singh,” the actress told the publication.

Nikita admitted that not coming from a film background meant she had to learn everything the hard way. There were no shortcuts, no insider guidance. For her, it was just the sheer will to work and keep moving forward.
“I cannot sit and wait for my dream role to just come walking into my doorstep,” she said, describing the attitude that has shaped her journey.

Nikita shared that while working on Kabir Singh, she considered it a blessing to be surrounded by people like director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and actor Shahid Kapoor. For someone like her, she felt that getting a film of that scale and the positioning it gave her was nothing less than a gift placed in her lap.

She also reflected that no matter how prestigious an acting school might be, the real lessons come from being on set. She explained that repeating the process, allowing herself to be vulnerable, and accepting everything that a film set throws at her is what truly helps an actor grow. According to her, it is this constant exposure and practice that makes one more experienced and better at the craft.

On the work front, Nikita will next be seen in Prime Video’s upcoming web series, Nazdeekiyan, alongside Paresh Pahuja, Aakanksha Singh, and Taaha Shah Badusha.
