When Saraswatichandra aired on Star Plus in 2013-2014, audiences were captivated by the effortless chemistry between the leads, Gautam Rode and Jennifer Winget. Their on-screen pairing became one of the most talked-about aspects of the show, sparking endless speculation about their bond off-screen.

But in a recent interaction with Pinkvilla, Gautam offered a refreshingly honest perspective that might surprise fans.

The actor revealed that despite their seamless portrayal of love and emotion on screen, he and Jennifer barely interacted during the initial phase of the show.

Gautam said, “We did not speak with each other for one and a half years. We only greeted one another and did not even exchange our numbers. Everyone was surprised as to how is the chemistry so good between the two of us? As in she was in her zone and I was in my zone. We hardly spoke.”

He explained that Jennifer had just gotten married at the time, and both were deeply focused on their work. Their interactions were limited to script readings and takes, with little conversation beyond that.

In an industry where “off-screen bonding” is often cited as the secret sauce for on-screen sparks, Gautam had a different take.

The Parichay actor explained that both he and Jennifer were professional actors, and for him it was not necessary to build a personal bond to deliver good performances. He said that even if he did not go to the other person or see their face, he could still work well with them as long as they were willing to work too. He added that acting was his profession, and it was not compulsory for co‑actors to be best friends.

Interestingly, Gautam shared that their friendship blossomed much later, after nearly one and a half years of working together.

“But yes, we became good friends after one and a half years. Then we used to laugh and say why did not we speak earlier!”, he said.

Once they started bonding, people assumed there was more to their equation. However, Gautam clarified that heir relationship remained strictly professional and friendly.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s TV debut Saraswatichandra was a lavish adaptation of Govardhanram Tripathi’s classic novel of the same name. The story follows Saraswatichandra Vyas (played by Gautam Rode) and Kumud Desai (Jennifer Winget), whose love faces repeated trials due to family secrets, misunderstandings, and societal pressures.

Saraswatichandra also featured names like Varun Kapoor, Shiny Doshi, Srishty Rode, Aanshul Trivedi and Monica Bedi.
