Emraan Hashmi, in a new interview, talked about his takeaway from his career trajectory. He also opened up on how it has been a long journey for him to get rid of the ‘serial kisser’ tag.

After working as an assistant director on Dino Morea-Bipasha Basu starrer Raaz, Emraan Hashmi made his acting debut with Vikram Bhatt’s crime thriller Footpath in 2003. Under the Bhatt camp, the actor went on to deliver several hits like Murder, Zeher and Aashiq Banaya Aapne, to name a few.

This was followed by a lull phase in his career where the actor tried to step out of his comfort zone and experiment. Now, the actor is back in the limelight with Salman Khan’s recent spy thriller Tiger 3 which has  turned out to be an important movie in his filmography.

Recently, in an interview with Indian Express, Emraan Hashmi opened up on the lessons he learnt from his showbiz journey.

The actor told the publication,  “In this industry there is no constant, there will always be highs and lows. One should stay resilient and not get swayed by both — success and failure. To have your head firmly on your shoulders and go back to your love for acting, because that’s the most important. Because if you are going to make it about fame and money and the outcome of films, you are not going to last in this industry for long.”

He further added, “That would be true for any actor who has been around for 20-30-40 years. It is the love for acting not the fame and success and money. That is the byproduct of the work you put in.”

During Emraan Hashmi‘s early years in the industry, the actor earned the serial kisser tag for his smooching scenes in films. Revisiting his two-decade journey and how he slowly got rid of that tag, Emraan said that the tag was actually given to him as a joke but it stuck with people for some reason. He also admitted that he did benefit from it as those films did well at the box office.

However, according to Emraan, the actor soon decided to move on before he was “badly rejected” for the same troupe in his films.

“At one point I felt that it had played its part and I was ready to move on before it was rejected badly. You can’t serve the same dish to people time and again. You have to do something different. So, although the people didn’t want it, it was me who decided that I have to try something different. I might have had a certain bleeding period in. In the industry, people would say ‘what is he doing?’. Some films didn’t do well at the box office because I was going against the image but I thought it was very important for me to hone my skills as an actor and present something new to the audience,” the publication quoted the ‘Selfiee’ actor as saying.

On the work front, Emraan is currently basking in the success of Tiger 3 co-starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
