Alia Bhatt, in a new interview, said that she just went with the flow when it came to film choices at the start of her Bollywood career.

Alia Bhatt made a smashing debut in Hindi cinema with Karan Johar’s campus romance Student Of The Year alongside Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Over a period of time, the actress went on to establish herself as a versatile performer with her impressive acting chops in films like Highway, 2 States, Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Raazi, Gully Boy and Gangubai Kathiawadi to name a few.

In a recent interview with Femina, Alia was asked if there is any advice that she received from people which she is now happy that she didn’t pay heed to. In response, the actress shared that at the beginning of her career, she felt like she was getting a ‘lot of these voices’ about doing more commercial films, going the more straight route, genre films, which are actually very tough to do.

“There was a sense that I was perhaps picking too many risky performances in risky films that were not going to be commercially successful, but rather cater to a niche audience. But I don’t think I was thinking at that time. I was just going with the flow and going with whatever part I felt would be able to challenge me the most and show enough variety. For the longest time, I was actually just saying ‘yes’ to whatever I got. I’m happy that I did not try and manipulate my choices; I just went with the flow and did what scared me, and I enjoyed it thoroughly,” the Darlings star told the publication.

Alia also opened up on how she pulls up characters which have traits that are completely different from who she is in her real life. The actress shared that for her, empathy is the most important trait as an actor because if she doesn’t empathise with the situation, she can’t create that imagination for herself.

Elaborating further on her process as an actor, the Bollywood star shared, “I empathise and I create a story in my head. I’m a big storyteller. And that is something that I’ve always done. I have a very wild imagination, so I create the world of that person in my head based on what information I’ve read in the script and what I feel for the character. And that becomes my blueprint. And I keep thinking about that and I create that in my head. Everything happens in my head.”

On the work front, Alia Bhatt’s upcoming release is Karan Johar’s directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani co-starring Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.
