Aditya Roy Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor’s Aashiqui 2 completed a decade earlier this week.

In 1990, Naresh Sharma did the sound arrangement for Rahul Roy-Anu Aggarwal’s music blockbuster, Aashiqui. 23 years later, his son, music-composer Mithoon came onboard for Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2 which starred Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in leading roles.

Earlier this week, Aashiqui 2 clocked 10 years (April 26, 2023). In an interview with Hindustan Times, Mithoon recalled his father’s words to director Mohit Suri after hearing ‘Tum Hi Ho’ song.

The music composer revealed that he didn’t tell his father that he was signed up for Aashiqui 2 for quite some time which gave him a lot of space to work as no conversations were happening with him. He admitted that there were ‘high expectations’ from him to recreate the magic with his music for this Aditya-Shraddha starrer.

The publication quoted him as saying, “When the basic idea of the song was ready, I went to him and shared the news. My father gave a very understated reaction. That’s also because he is my guru and I can’t get very pally with him. However, after few days, when he heard the final version of Tum Hi Ho as well as the instrumental in the film, he called up (director) Mohit Suri, who was in South Africa at that time, and said, ‘What my son has done for your film is better than the work of my entire career’. That felt so good.”

According to Mithoon, this was an ‘extremely emotional’ moment not just for him but also for Mohit Suri. The composer-lyricist said that he never anticipated such a fabulous response for ‘Tum Hi Ho’ when he was working on it.

Mithoon said that for him, this track is beyond streaming numbers and awards. He added that when he performs this song in his lives, he lets people know that he is sharing a piece of his life with them.

Not just Mithoon, ‘Tum Hi Ho’ also ended up as a major turning point in singer Arijit Singh’s career.
