Sanjay Leela Bhansali had approached Bhumika Chawla for Bajirao Mastani. The actress had even given a screen test for this film which was later made with Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.

After Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Ajay Devgn starrer Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to roll his ambitious project, Bajirao Mastani with Salman and Aishwarya as Bajirao and Mastani respectively. However, the director’s plan went kaput with Salman-Aishwarya’s much publicized ugly breakup.

After an endless game of musical chairs in terms of casting, Bajirao Mastani finally made it to the big screen in 2015 with Ranveer Singh as Bajirao, Deepika Padukone as Mastani and Priyanka Chopra as Kashibai. The film received a thumbs up from the audience and turned out to be a money-spinner at the box office.

The actress made this revelation in her recent interview with Siddharth Kannan. Bhumika recalled giving a screen test for Bajirao Mastani after her Bollywood debut film, Tere Naam and even talked about a mishap which happened during her photoshoot.

The Okkadu actress revealed, “This was a lot of years ago but then over the years, things changed. My screen test happened soon after Tere Naam. I had done a photo shoot with sir in his style. My saree caught fire because ghee and oil spilled on my saree. I was holding the diyas in his style and it fell, and I was wearing a silk saree. I remember that happened.”

Speaking about films, Bhumika was recently seen in Farhad Samji’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan alongside Salman Khan, Pooja Hegde and Venkatesh Daggubati. The family entertainer hit the big screens on Eid this year.
