At the trailer launch event of Bloody Daddy, Shahid Kapoor opened up on why the makers of the film opted for an OTT release.

Riding on the success of his debut web series, Farzi, Shahid Kapoor’s next outing is Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bloody Daddy. Recently, the makers of the film dropped an action-packed trailer of this movie which has raised up the excitement levels of fans. At the same time, many people are also curious as to why this Shahid Kapoor starrer has opted to premier directly on OTT instead of a theatrical release.

At the trailer launch event of Bloody Daddy, Shahid Kapoor shared the reason behind this decision. The actor revealed, “When the teaser came out, I saw a lot of comments asking why aren’t we putting it out in the theatres. Trust me, we were all tempted! However, Bloody Daddy is designed for OTT. It was meant to be for that kind of a platform. Of course, there’s no bigger platform than Jio.”

Speaking about his first actioner, the Haider actor elaborated, “Watching content at the comfort of your house, pausing it whenever you want, stopping it, having your meal etc makes for a very comfortable experience. Going to the theatre to watch a film, meanwhile, is like an event experience where you go out with your family, have dinner, go to the mall and enjoy the day out. Both have their place. So, I don’t see theatre and OTT colliding into each other. Instead, they’ll coexist. We need to adapt and decide which content we need to take on which platform or screen size. A lot of people wanted this film out in cinemas. A lot of theatre exhibitors called and talked to us about it. But we stuck to what we truly, truly envisioned for this film, that is, creating a big screen experience for the OTT platform.”

Citing example of The Irishman, Shahid opined that when stalwarts like Martin Scorsese, Robert and De Niro can recognize the need to make the shift, its time for the younger lot as well to wake up to the change.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar who was also a part of the event, added that Bloody Daddy which revolves around drugs, has gory and lot of blood. He revealed that he and Shahid were very clear from the beginning that they will remain real to the script and the world, and make it accordingly for the OTT platform.

Besides Shahid Kapoor, Bloody Daddy also stars Diana Penty, Sanjay Kapoor, Rajeev Khandelwal and Ronit Roy. The film is slated to release on June 9 on Jio Cinema.
