Vidya Balan admitted that the film industry has started offering her roles that she wasn’t receiving before post her weight loss.
Vidya Balan has never shied away from talking about her struggle with weight and body image issues in her interviews. Recently in a chat with a leading publication, the actress opened up on her evolving relationship with her body and how the film industry’s perception towards her changed once she shed off those extra kilos.
Vidya revealed that she went through some hormonal issues post The Dirty Picture (2011) wherein her body won’t respond to anything, and she kept putting on weight.
“I went through some hormonal issues, and whatever I did I was only swelling up more and more, but I told myself I shouldn’t let that hold me back. I realized that this is the body that is keeping me alive, and I am only sending it hate because I wanted it to be what it is not,” the ‘Kahani’ actress candidly admitted to India Today.
Vidya told the publication that she found acceptance with the help of a healer she had worked with for 13 years.
Talking about how her relationship with her body started changing, the Bollywood star explained, “I started giving gratitude to the body. My health started improving because I think we don’t realise that it’s not just exercise, food, sleep, and water, but also the emotion that we put into our body, and a large part of this is because we hold in so much. Sometimes people put on weight because of fear, while some shed because of that. All of us express things differently and there is no right or wrong. It is impossible to have a yardstick to measure bodies. I know it is there, but I think it is wrong.”
Further, Vidya said that while she learnt to embrace her body’s fluctuations, it didn’t bother her that she couldn’t lose weight despite her efforts. That’s when she got in touch with a health institute wherein she learnt that the root cause of her problem had to do with inflammation due to stress and unhealthy gut.
While the welcome by-product of this diagnosis was that she was finally able to shed weight, Vidya emphasized that she wasn’t chasing.
The actress also talked about how the industry’s perception towards her changed once she lost weight.
“I will say that I am being offered certain kinds of roles that I wasn’t being offered before. But having said that, because I have never seen it as a limitation, there has never been a dearth of work,” Vidya said in her interview. The actress also added that she has stopped encouraging any negative comments on her body.
On the professional front, Vidya Balan is currently basking in the success of her recent release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 co-starring Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri.
