Triptii Dimri said that while comedy as a genre is new to her, the fear of it also excites her.

After critically acclaimed films like Laila Majnu, Bulbbul and Qala, Triptii Dimri took the mainstream Hindi cinema by storm last year with her brief role in Ranbir Kapoor’s blockbuster, Animal. The revenge drama even earned her the moniker of #NationalCrush.

Slowly finding her feet in commercial films, Triptii tried her hand at comedy in Anand Tiwari’s family entertainer, Bad Newz which released earlier this year. The actress will be seen exploring this genre again in her upcoming release, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video co-starring Rajkummar Rao. She also has Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in her kitty, which is a horror comedy.

In a recent interview with Grazia India magazine, Triptii opened up on doing comedy films. The actress revealed that while she has a knack for drama, she is really scared of doing comedy on screen.

The actress said, “Drama is my favourite genre, and I know that I am good at it. But doing a comedy film really scares me. But it’s good, because my acting coach told me once that you should be scared the day you feel like you know everything, and all the things feel easy – that’s the day you are gone as an actor. Being an actor, our passion is driven by our hunger for more, and while comedy as a genre is very new to me, the fear of it excites me, too. I don’t want to feel comfortable or complacent. On the sets of Bad Newz (2024), I got to work with Vicky (Kaushal) and Ammy (Virk), and humour comes to them so naturally. Even Rajkummar (Rao), with whom I have yet another film in the works titled Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, I have learnt so much from because he’s such a natural.”

Speaking about the challenges of exploring comedy as a genre, she continued, “It is difficult to make someone laugh. If you try too hard to crack someone up while you are acting, no one will actually see the humour in it. You have to really believe in what you are saying and be convinced yourself that what you are saying is indeed funny, and that’s how you connect with an audience.”

Triptii Dimri will next be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao’s Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. The laugh-a-riot is slated to lock horns with Alia Bhatt-starrer Jigra on October 11, 2024.
