Zayed Khan recalls how Shah Rukh Khan’s simple question landed him Lucky’s role in Main Hoon Na, without even an audition.
From chasing Farah Khan for a music video to being cast in one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters, Zayed Khan’s journey to Main Hoon Na is nothing short of a movie.
In an interview with Zoom, Zayed recalled how he had been trying to reach Farah Khan to direct his song ‘Mohabbat Hai Mirchi’. At the time, Farah was busy and stressed, and barely knew who he was beyond being Sanjay and Zarine Khan’s son. Still, Zayed kept calling her politely until she finally agreed to meet.
Farah gave him an address, and Zayed ended up at Shah Rukh Khan’s Bandra office, surrounded by posters and photographs of the superstar. Confused, he wondered if Farah worked for SRK or was simply a fan.
Farah bluntly told him she wasn’t interested in his song but hinted that Shah Rukh would explain. Soon, SRK himself walked in, suave, charming, and every bit the superstar Zayed had admired from afar.
Shah Rukh told him, “Don’t listen to her. We are casting the second lead in Main Hoon Na, and we were thinking of you.” He then asked him one simple question, “Can you act?” Zayed replied with youthful confidence, “I am born to act.” Shah Rukh smirked, amused yet impressed.
Farah later saw footage from Zayed’s debut film, and the rest was history. He was cast as the second lead in Main Hoon Na, a role that would define his career and introduce him to millions of fans.
What began as a polite pursuit for a music video turned into a life‑changing opportunity for Zayed Khan.
Main Hoon Na follows Major Ram (Shah Rukh Khan), an army officer on a secret mission, who goes undercover as a college student, to protect a general’s daughter and reunite his fractured family.
