Ranbir Kapoor recently walked down the memory lane and recalled how he bagged Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar.

Every time Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali collaborate, magic happens on screen. Talking about their successful outings together so far, who can forget Ranbir’s heart wrenching performance as Jordan in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film, Rockstar! But do you folks know that Ranbir Kapoor wasn’t the first choice for this musical romance?

Imtiaz Ali was initially supposed to make Rockstar with John Abraham even before Ranbir became an actor. However, the film got shelved. Years later, when Ranbir stepped in to play Jordan and the rest is history.

Recently, in a virtual fan interaction, the Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar star recalled how he came onboard for Rockstar.

Ranbir said, “When Imtiaz came to me, he offered me some other film, which was something about marketing. And I remembered that before I became an actor, I had heard that John Abraham was doing Rockstar but that did not happen and it got shelved, I don’t know for what reason.”

Later, Ranbir reminded Imtiaz about Rockstar and asked what happened about the film.

“So, he said that the guy who wrote the story for Rockstar, he himself wanted to direct and act in it so for that reason he did not make the film. Anyway we decided to part ways and three months later, he told me that he spoke that guy. So that’s how Rockstar happened.”

Previously, in one of his interviews, Imtiaz had spoken about this cast change and revealed that he replaced John because his new version of the protagonist required a much younger character.

Speaking about Rockstar, the film featured Nargis Fakhri as Ranbir’s leading lady. The Imtiaz Ali directorial revolved around a Delhi lad who chases his dream of becoming a rockstar and how a heartbreak not only helps him to reach his goal but also causes his self-destruction.
