Krystle Dsouza spoke about how she was asked to hide her eye color and wear brown lens to play positive characters on screen.

When we speak about actors in showbiz especially women, we can’t turn a blind eye towards how they are often subjected to bizarre and unrealistic beauty standards. Recently in a chat with a news portal, Krystle Dsouza opened up on how she was often asked by makers to wear brown lens to pull off ‘positive characters’.

The actress told News18 Showsha, “My eyes are green. From 2008-2009 to 2019 when I did Fittrat, I wore brown lenses every day of my life because they said I won’t look like a positive character if my eyes are green. I don’t know why but I believed them and put on dark brown lenses for almost ten years.”

Krystal revealed that an episode on the sets of her web series, Fittrat in 2019 taught her how not to succumb to such demands.

“People who knew me knew that I had green eyes but others, who saw me on stage or onscreen, thought my eye colour was naturally brown. If anyone tells me anything like this today, I’ll never believe or give in to them because now I know that you can see the honesty in people when you look into their eyes. During Fittrat, my director said to me, ‘Nothing doing! Throw those lenses out. I love your eyes’,” shared the actress who shot to fame with Star Plus’ popular soap, Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai.

Further, Krystal shared that at the beginning of her career, she was also called out for her dusky skin tone and asked to wash herself with milk to get fair complexion.

The ‘Brahmarakshas’ actress said, “I kept thinking to myself that I’m allergic to milk, toh uska kya? I didn’t want to be gora. I’m an Indian. I’m very, very desi and I love my skin colour. Why should I become fair?”

Krystle admitted that one is subjected to a lot of scrutiny as an actor in terms of how they look and carry themselves. However, she also added that she has now developed a thick skin to the criticism, and has embraced her real self.

Speaking about work, Krystle was recently seen in Kookie Gulati’s OTT release, Visfot which also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Fardeen Khan and Priya Bapat. The film is currently streaming on Jio Cinema.
