Sarzameen director Kayoze Irani shared the reason why he had to cut Kajol’s role short in his recently released film.

Kayoze Irani recently made his directorial debut with Jio+ Hotstar’s war drama Sarzameen featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Unfortunately, the film failed to meet the audience’s expectations and some even expressed their displeasure over Kajol’s limited screen space in the film.

In a recent chat with Times Now, Kayoze shared that he had to drop off the entire flashback sequence of Kajol’s character arc after receiving feedback on the Indian Army.

“It had to be cut not because of time restrictions. The reason why we cut it was that we wanted to be secured by the Indian Army. I shared the script and showed the film to the Indian Army. We wanted their permission before taking it out. For sensitivity reasons, we decided to cut it,” the filmmaker was quoted as saying by the publication.

On being asked how the Indian Army reacted to his directorial, Kayoze added, “I showed the rough edit of Sarzameen to the Indian Army. They reacted strongly and gave me a few notes to improve the screenplay and be faithful towards the men in uniform. We went to Delhi to show them the film. They sat with us for 30-45 minutes and helped us get the nuances right.”

Sarzameen revolves around a soldier’s son who returns home as a stranger—haunted by war, entangled in suspicion, and torn between blood and beliefs.
