Kajol revealed that there was a point in her career when Shah Rukh Khan advised to learn the technique of acting. However, she ignored his advice and ended up getting completely burnt out as an actor.

Kajol made her big screen debut with Bekhudi in 1992 and soon, went on to become one of the most sought after heroines in the 90s. According to the actress, she felt that she had become so good in her craft that she started doing things ‘unconsciously’.

At that point in her career, her good friend and co-star of many films, Shah Rukh Khan advised her to learn the technique of acting, but she turned a deaf ear to his advice. However, she soon faced a burnout and reached a point where she wanted to bid goodbye to films. The Dilwale actress made this revelation in a recent chat with Humans Of Cinema.

Kajol told the portal, “I reached a point in my career where I was doing things unconsciously. I was doing everything… I was like ‘ye bhi kar do, ye dialogue bhi bol do, sab kuch andar se nikal raha tha (Do everything, say every dialogue, everything was coming from within). I remember having this conversation with Shah Rukh and he was like, ‘Maybe you got to learn this technique of acting.’ I was like, ‘What’s that? Aisi bhi koi cheez hai? He said, ‘Yes, people are taught this technique and you have to learn this because you cannot do everything from within.’ I didn’t take it seriously then.”

However, soon, there came a point where Kajol faced burnout as an actor after doing serious roles, and wanted to quit acting and the film industry.

“I did a film called Udhar Ki Zindagi (1994). After that film, I felt I was done with the film industry and acting. I was completely burnt out as an actor and I didn’t want to do movies anymore. I told my mother I am taking a break from all this meaningful cinema, this rona-dhona and achee roles. I don’t want to do them anymore. I told her, I want to be a typical 3 scenes and 4 song kind of actor who doesn’t have many scenes. So, I signed 3 films which had that kind of role and they were a relief,” the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai star recalled.

Further, the actress admitted that she soon learnt the importance of learning the acting technique. She realised that one doesn’t have to give too much of themselves to something and that one can just act knowing that they are good at it.

On the work front, Kajol is currently enjoying the rave reviews of her performance in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2. She will next be seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming series The Good Wife. The actress will also be sharing screen space with Kriti Sanon in the latter’s maiden production, Do Patti.
