Aamir Khan shared an interesting story about his iconic cap from Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin.

When Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin released in 1991, audiences instantly connected with Aamir Khan’s charming performance, and surprisingly, with his cap. They loved the casual yet quirky look it gave his character, and the accessory quickly turned into a talking point.

But did you know that this cap that Aamir wore in the film actually belonged to his actor-nephew Imran Khan who was around four-five years old back then?

In a recent chat with Radio Nasha, the Laal Singh Chaddha star recalled that he was searching for the right cap for his character Raghu but couldn’t find one that felt right. He tried many, but none worked. Then, while visiting Nasir Hussain’s house, he saw little Imran Khan, only four or five years old, wearing a cap.

“I immediately said, “Take off that cap, I need it.” It was a little big on him, but he was wearing it anyway. I ended up taking that cap from Imran. I’ve taken quite a few things from him over the years!,” Aamir shared.

He continued, “What I didn’t realize then was that the cap would almost become like a character in the film itself, and it went on to become very popular.”

More than three decades later, Aamir Khan’s cap from Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable style moments. What began as a playful borrowing from little Imran Khan turned into an accessory that audiences embraced as part of the film’s charm.

Inspired by the classic Hollywood film, It Happened One Night (1934), Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin follows Pooja (Pooja Bhatt), a runaway heiress and Raghu (Aamir Khan), a witty journalist who fall in love during a journey full of adventures. Even today, the Mahesh Bhatt film is fondly remembered for its timeless songs like ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’ and ‘Tu Pyaar Hai Kisi Aur Ka’.
