Kartik Aaryan opened up on whether the chatter around box office numbers has added pressure on him for his upcoming release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Post COVID-19 lockdown, Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was one of the first films to pull back the crowd into theatres in massive numbers. The film went on to do a business of over Rs 185 crore at the Indian box office. Since then, a lot has changed when it comes to the consumption pattern of the audience with respect to content.

Speaking about this year, Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor’s horror comedy Stree 2 shattered records and performed exceptionally well at the box office. In a recent interaction with Indian Express, Kartik Aaryan who is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, was asked if the chatter around box office numbers has added pressure on him to deliver big.

In response, the ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ actor said, “There is mathematics behind it. Like what is the team, what was their last film, what is their next, who is the audience coming to see? Is it the biggest date of the year, are there many holidays in the run? There are several calculations, which you as well as the industry is looking at. When these things are well calculated, you don’t take the pressure of it.”

Pointing out how the box office and the film’s release date window isn’t a level playing field for everyone, Kartik mentioned that in his more than a decade long journey in the industry, he has never been handed success on a platter.

“In my journey, I’ve never had anything handed to me. I had to make the plate myself; no one came to me with a platter. No one got me a Rs 500 cr director when I started, I worked with all debut directors. So, I haven’t been that lucky, but I know from where my margin can rise. If I am still giving that number, I am content with that,” the actor told the publication.

At the same time, Kartik also said that he is neither comparing nor complaining, and added, “I am in a good space because nobody knew me when I came to the city and now, I am recognized in every corner of the country. That’s something to be grateful about.”

Talking about his upcoming film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the Anees Bazmee directorial marks his return as Rooh Baba with Tripti Dimri as his heroine this time. The film also features Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit in key roles.
