Before bidding goodbye to 2024, we list down 12 of our favourite Hindi film songs from this year which ruled our music playlist.

Recently while scrolling through Pinterest, I came across a quote by Georgia Kates which read- ‘Music is what feelings sound like.’ Well, isn’t she on point? Be it connecting with your emotions or expressing yourself, there’s no better instrument than music/songs!

Speaking about Hindi film songs, the year 2024 was quite a mixed bag for listeners. You had the classic case of old wine in a new bottle with makers revamping old chartbusters for their films. At the same time, there were a few lyricists who let the ink in their pen flow. Overall, there were hits and misses.

We list down our 12 most favourite Hindi tracks from this year which left a lasting impression on us. (Note: These songs are not in a particular order).

‘Vida Karo’ (Amar Singh Chamkila)

While the soundtrack of Imtiaz Ali’s Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila is a goldmine, it’s Arijit Singh-Jonita Gandhi’s ‘Vida Karo’ which moved us the most. Inspired by a poem by late Shiv Kumar Batalvi, this haunting melody transports you to a different time and space. ‘Tum sabhi saaf sahi hoon matmaila main’- you can’t come up with better words than this to describe a misunderstood music icon!

‘Tu Hain Toh’ (Mr. & Mrs Mahi)

Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor in a still from Mr. & Mrs Mahi

In English, we say ‘I love you’ to express our love, care and affection for someone. In Bollywood, it’s ‘Tu hai toh dil dhadakta hai, tu hai toh saans aati hai, tu na toh ghar ghar nahi lagta, tu hai to darr nahi lagta.’  If you ask us, we would go with the latter.

‘Haan Ke Haan’ (Maharaj)

Sonu Nigam proves it yet again why he will always be the G.O.A.T! The way he expresses Manjulika’s anguish and disappointment over betrayal in the lines- ‘zehreele sapno mein, mere hi apnon ne, mujhko hai dhokha diya‘ gives you sheer goosebumps.
