Amitabh Bachchan shared that the audience didn’t like the title of his 1978 blockbuster hit Don.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan often takes to his blog to share some interesting stories and anecdotes about his films. Recently, the actor shared a funny story about his 1978 film Don. Big B revealed that back then, the audience was skeptical and annoyed with the makers as to why a film’s title should be about undergarments. For the unversed, this confusion was because there was a brand named Dawn selling vests.

Amitabh shared in his blog, “Amusingly, when the film ‘DON’ was announced with me .. many in the world of Hindi cinema were quite unaware of the word don .. what they were familiar with was a product known as DAWN .. the  DAWN banyaan .. vests .. And the market was very skeptical and annoyed with the makers as to why a film title should be about undergarments. Many still are.” The actor recently celebrated 41st anniversary of the release of Don.

Earlier too, the actor had spoken about this when Don clocked 41 years. The superstar wrote, “Don was a name title that no one in the market approved of. They never understood what it meant and never felt that a name such as ‘DON’ was material for the title of a Hindi film. In fact for truth be told…for many it was quite an amusing title. Much later of course with the ‘Godfather’ series, the word garnered enough publicity and reckoning, to be respectful enough. But till then, initially it was in the realm of humour.
