Adipurush director Om Raut spoke about his film starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Singh getting panned post release.

The much anticipated Adipurush featuring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage released in cinema halls last week (June 16). Upon its theatrical release, the Om Raut directorial opened to mixed to negative reviews with the makers receiving flak for some ‘disrespectable’ dialogues in the film.

Recently, in a chat with Republic, director Om Raut addressed the negative reviews received by his ambitious project. The filmmaker said that despite not-so-favourable reviews, audiences in the theatres have been chanting “Jai Shri Ram ” during the film’s screenings, and that he is incredibly happy and proud with this reponse.

“What is more important is the type of response that the film is getting at the box office. I’m very happy to say that we are going for an unprecedented number of day one of the global box office,” Om Raut told the news channel. For the unversed, the Prabhas starrer has already minted Rs 300 Crore worldwide at the box office.

Further, the director explained that he made his film from whatever he understood from Ramayana, and added that no one could understand Ramayana fully.

“If I kind of sit down and tell you that I have understood the drama, I think it will be a serious error, because nobody, I feel, has the capacity to understand Ramayana. Whatever Ramayana that I have understood, whatever little bit you know, it’s like a squirrel’s contribution. That little bit that I have understood of the Ramayana is something that I’ve tried to portray onto celluloid. Ramayana is so large that it is impossible for anybody to understand. If they say that you understand Ramayana, they are fools, or they are lying,” Raut said in his interview.

He further clarified that while the Ramayana he grew up watching showcased a larger story, his film Adipurush focused on only ‘Yuddha Kanda’ chapter from the story.

Om Raut made his Bollywood directorial debut with Ajay Devgn-Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
